Children’s Garden

Our students learn and explore the natural world in an outdoor classroom.

Started in 2007 by ICS parent and landscape architect Kate Lacouture, ICS’s Children’s Garden provides our students with opportunities to learn and explore the natural world in an outdoor classroom. As part of ICS’s health and wellness education, the garden:

  • Promotes environmental awareness
  • Provides hands-on experiences of planting and caring for a garden
  • Encourages understanding and appreciation of the natural world, the seasons, and the cycle of life
  • Helps answer the question “where does our food come from?”

The ICS Children’s Garden also strengthens ties to our neighborhood, helps raise awareness of our school, and gives students a sense of pride that they are capable of growing their own food. It has provided opportunities for all grades to plant different kinds of food gardens, including a salad garden, pizza garden, popcorn garden, potato garden, salsa garden, and sunflower garden.

We are grateful to The Steel Yard, who created and installed the custom-made bench and sculpture.

Help us empower caring global citizens!
