Local Advisory Committee (LAC)

ICS has a Local Advisory Committee (LAC)-which is a group of ICS families (of students with special needs), staff and community members working together on behalf of students with special needs and their families and meets several times a year to discuss issues related to Special Education at ICS.

The LAC meetings for the 2012-13 school year are:

October 10th meeting we will be discussing important things you need to know when choosing a new school for your child and things you need to know and do for your child who is transitioning to a new school next year. This meeting will be especially helpful for parents of students in the 5th grade or parents of students who are going to a new school next year.

November 7th meeting we will have a workshop presented by the special education team. The workshop being presented is about fun educational activities you can do with your child at home to improve reading skills.

March 27th meeting we will discuss theParent Survey that RI Department of Education sends out each Spring. This is a very important survey that will give ICS information on how can we improve engaging the families of students with IEPs.

June 5th will be a workshop on ways to support your child's learning over the summer. The Special Education Team will share strategies and activities to keep students engaged in learning over the summer break.

Please call with any questions or to register if you plan to attend.
