Dear Charter School Supporter:

The Rhode Island League of Charter Schools has introduced legislation (H-5632, S-528) to update our state's charter school law which has not been significantly amended since its enactment in 1995. Some of the more important updates outlined in the bill include:

  • Separating the law into three sections that clearly define district charters, independent charters, and mayoral academy charters
  • Strengthening prevailing wage language
  • Deleting all references to a moratorium on new charters
  • Giving charter schools parity in accessing housing aid reimbursement funds for school construction
